Design Model Production

Modeling Innovative Futures at Irvine Valley College

Over the last several years, digital technology has revolutionized the way models and prototypes are designed and created. As this industry continues to evolve, opportunities for workers with the cutting-edge, high-tech skills needed to create complex designs, models, and prototypes will continue to grow.

Rapid model making is a valued part of many industries, such as transportation, architecture, product creation and packaging, media, and entertainment. Both the degree and certificate programs offered by IVC’s Design Model Making and Rapid Prototyping department are occupational in nature, and were created to meet industry requirements and lead directly to employment in the field.

Students explore the elements of creative thinking and interpretation used in the design process, while learning traditional and cutting-edge techniques used to construct prototypes. In advanced courses, students choose a field of specialization to explore methods and materials in digital simulation, modeling and rapid prototyping.

Because this field continues to evolve and adopt new technologies, the demand for workers who possess these advanced, up-to-date skills is projected to remain high, well into the future!

Ready to launch a Future BUILT career in Design Model Making? It all starts at Irvine Valley College!

Our Students Love Us!

“From my first class in the DMP program I knew I was in the right place to pursue my dreams… Nowhere else can you learn all the skills to be a prop maker, engineer, product developer, and 3D printing specialist all in one program. Enrolling in this program was the best choice I could have made and I’ve never regretted it.”
- Nevada Jack Smith, IVC Alum
[IVC offers] a hands-on educational perspective applied to up-to-date hardware within the subjects of additive and subtractive manufacturing, prototyping, and engineering. [Professor McKim’s] support for his students helped me get my next job, one which I plan to stay with permanently.”
- Alexander Bowers, IVC Alum
“I enjoyed being involved on campus and making connections with the campus community. I would encourage any future students to engage on campus in any and every way they can.”
