The Digital Media Art program at IVC prepares students for in-demand careers in photography, video, graphic design, and much more. The project-based curriculum builds valuable experience through studio-based coursework, with the support of IVC’s top-notch faculty and facilities.
Student build a broad base of workforce-applicable knowledge, starting with fundamentals of graphic design and photography. As the student progresses, they encounter a choice of electives, allowing them the opportunity to specialize in video and photography, or design-related work. IVC’s curriculum develops students’ understanding and appreciation of art and the creative process, and familiarizes them with software and other tools used in the creative industry.
Programs within the Visual Arts Department offer a variety of lab and lecture courses for the Digital Media Art major, as well as general education credit opportunities for the non-major. In addition, there are a number of proficiency certificates available, providing the student with career-based skills in digital and interactive media, as well as applied museum techniques.

Many courses offered through IVC’s Visual Arts Department curriculum meet general education requirements in fine arts and are transferrable to bachelor’s degree programs in both the UC and CSU systems. They may also be taken to satisfy the requirements for the Associate in Arts degree with a major in Art, Digital Media Art, or Art History.

Certificates of Achievement
Certificates of Achievement are state-approved certificates that acknowledge workplace competencies and job readiness in a particular field. In many cases, the courses that comprise a certificate of achievement are the same as those required for an associate degree, minus the General Education courses.
