Today’s athletes are stronger, faster, and healthier than ever before… and so are the industries that support them.
The field of Fitness and Sports Science is moving fast, and Irvine Valley College is helping Orange County industry keep pace through its School of Kinesiology, Health and Athletics. This industry sector includes a number of “Bright Outlook Occupations” according to O-NET Online, a data-tracking application that identifies careers with 10% or higher project growth.
Movement-minded students build the necessary skills to staff entry-level positions in fitness-related fields, while earning affordable credits transferable to a CSU bachelor’s degree program in Kinesiology. The curriculum combines physical activity with career-relevant theory and practice, drawing on the broad experience of its top-notch instructors. Many program activities center around the Life Fitness Center, Irvine Valley College’s own sports, recreation and learning facility.
The School of Kinesiology, Health and Athletics at Irvine Valley College opens doors to a versatile array of career opportunities in teaching, coaching, athletic training, exercise science, fitness, health, nutrition, and sports psychology. Classes are offered in cardiovascular fitness, individual/paired sports, intercollegiate athletics, team sports, and physical training. The school also provides special services courses for individuals (with or without a documented physical disability) seeking corrective and rehabilitative exercise.
All activity classes are designed not only to provide for physiological development but also to educate students about the principles involved, and to introduce them to related topics of nutrition, injury prevention, and health enhancement.

These two-year college degrees are designed for students who want to gain in-depth understanding of a particular field but differ in that they are specifically designed to help students transfer seamlessly to a 4-year California State University where they can complete a bachelors degree.

Certificates of Achievement
Certificates of Achievement are state-approved certificates that acknowledge workplace competencies and job readiness in a particular field. In many cases, the courses that comprise a certificate of achievement are the same as those required for an associate degree, minus the General Education courses.
IVC Offers a COA in:
Fitness Professional
Certificates of Proficiency
Certificates of Proficiency acknowledge basic workplace abilities and are designed for students who want to enter the workforce quickly or upgrade their job skills. These certificates have a total credit requirement of less than 18 units and are designed and approved by local business leaders in order to make them as practical as possible.
